91
The Protection of the Most High
1The one who lives under the protection of the Most High
dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. # 91:1 Ps 27:5; 32:7; 121:5
2I will say # 91:1–2 LXX, Syr, Jer read 2Almighty, saying, or 2Almighty, he will say concerning the Lord, who is my refuge and my fortress,
my God in whom I trust: # 91:2 Ps 18:2; 61:4; 62:7–8
3He himself will rescue you from the bird trap, # 91:3 Ps 124:7; 141:9; Ec 9:12
from the destructive plague.
4He will cover you with his feathers;
you will take refuge under his wings. # 91:4 Ps 57:1; 63:7
His faithfulness will be a protective shield. # 91:4 Ps 5:12
5You will not fear the terror of the night,
the arrow that flies by day, # 91:5 Ps 58:7; 76:3
6the plague that stalks in darkness,
or the pestilence that ravages at noon. # 91:5–6 Jb 5:19–23
7Though a thousand fall at your side
and ten thousand at your right hand,
the pestilence will not reach you. # 91:7 2Ch 20:9
8You will only see it with your eyes
and witness the punishment of the wicked. # 91:8 Ps 37:34; 58:10
9Because you have made the Lord #— #my refuge, # 91:9 Ps 18:2; 62:7–8
the Most High #— #your dwelling place, # 91:9 Ps 121:5
10no harm will come to you;
no plague will come near your tent. # 91:10 Pr 12:21
11For he will give his angels orders concerning you,
to protect you in all your ways. # 91:11 Ps 34:7
12They will support you with their hands
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. # 91:11–12 Mt 4:6; Lk 4:10–11
13You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the young lion and the serpent. # 91:13 Lk 10:19
14Because he has his heart set on me,
I will deliver him;
I will protect him because he knows my name. # 91:14 Ps 9:10; 37:40; 107:41
15When he calls out to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble.
I will rescue him and give him honor. # 91:15 2Sm 22:20; Ps 18:19; 50:15
16I will satisfy him with a long life # 91:16 Dt 4:40; Ps 21:4
and show him my salvation. # 91:16 Ps 50:23
