Fire on the Mountain It’s the big day. King Ahab and the people who worship Baal have climbed up the mountain. Elijah – the only one who still worships God – has climbed up the mountain. What happens today will decide the future for all of them! The people have built a pile of wood for Baal. Elijah challenges the people to pray to their god to set the wood on fire. They pray to Baal, but Baal is only a statue. They pray harder and shout louder, but nothing happens. There is no fire. Then Elijah puts stones together and places the wood and meat on top. He digs a ditch around it and then pours lots of water over it so that it all gets wet and there is water in the ditch. Elijah prays to God. Read today’s Bible verses.
