Faith Is a Verb

Dear brother or sister, in this plan, we will discover the beautiful promises of active faith. Active faith is not only about believing with your words but also about showing it in your actions.

There is a big difference between saying what you believe and doing what you believe. If it remains only words, there is usually little to no fruit from what one claims to believe.

Some people say they believe, yet admit they do little with their faith or are not practicing believers.

According to the Bible, that is not true faith. Scripture makes it clear that faith is not a passive lifestyle. No—faith is doing what God asks of us.

Faith is action.

Faith is a verb.

James 2:15–16, 20 (NKJV) says:

“If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,’ but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?” […] “But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?”

James is not talking about works of the law, but about works of faith. If you say you believe, you will show it in how you live—how you speak, act, and the choices you make. You actually help a brother or sister and don’t only say you believe things will work out or that you will pray for them.

Merely saying you believe, without living it out, has no benefit at all. According to Scripture, that kind of faith is dead.

Jesus says in John 15:2 (NKJV):

“Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”

Faith that does not act is dead faith. And something that’s dead cannot bear fruit. Jesus shows us that as believers, we are supposed to actively live out our faith—living as Jesus lived.

Only active faith can sow and bear fruit.

Only active faith receives what God has provided by grace.

Prayer:

Lord, I don’t want to only say I believe; I want to live according to Your Word. Let my actions reveal what I confess with my mouth. Help me bear fruit daily and please You through faith in action. Amen.
