Praise the Lord for Deliverance

It can be easy to overlook or dismiss the hand of the Lord in our own lives. I want to challenge you to actively look for ways that God is working.

This devotion was inspired by a miracle story I covered on the podcast that I host, On the Ground with Samaritan's Purse. This story touched me, and I am excited to share it with you.

Deo is a precious little boy from Uganda. He was extremely sick and needed critical heart surgery to survive. As for many of our patients treated through the Samaritan’s Purse program Children’s Heart Project, travel for surgery was difficult for Deo. He was very weak, and there were so many obstacles in his way. He almost didn’t survive the journey to the U.S., but God had other plans.

We praise the Lord for His deliverance. It was truly a miracle. God was in the details, and He carried Deo when we didn’t think he would make it. This was such an extreme case, but as I reflected on this story, I think we are delivered more often than we are aware.

We often minimize or overlook the Lord’s hand of deliverance in our lives.

Can you think of a time of deliverance? If not, will you start asking God for eyes to see and ears to hear? I pray that we will be more aware of His presence and intervention in our lives—that we will be more grateful and give Him praise. It’s easier for me to pray and seek the Lord in the big things, but I know He is present in the small things as well.

Psalm 18:1-6, ESV

I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.

The cords of death encompassed me; the torrents of destruction assailed me; the cords of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me.

In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.

I love this passage so much. It encourages me to do two things. First, it encourages me to praise God no matter what circumstances I am facing. Second, it challenges me to cry out to God. Over the next two days, we will dig deeper into what Scripture says about these two topics.

Praise for Deliverance

In this three-day devotional, Kristy Graham, host of the podcast, On the Ground with Samaritan’s Purse, encourages readers to praise the Lord despite their circumstances. This devotion was inspired by a special two-part podcast episode called Saving Baby Deo. While you don’t have to listen to this podcast episode to complete this devotional, we encourage you to listen as we believe this miracle story will touch your heart too.
