Day 2: Bible as Our Blueprint
Have you tried assembling furniture without referring to its manual? Sometimes we believe that the manual is merely a book of helpful suggestions, and we trust ourselves to assemble it based on what we see. It is only when we thought we have finished assembling the furniture and we find a few pieces of loose planks here or a few loose screws there, that we realise it is simply not completed as it should be.
In the same way, the Bible is God’s blueprint for our lives. It tells us how we were meant to live and what we were created for. Without it, we build our lives on our fallible knowledge and risk never living a full life God has intended for us.
In today’s passage, Paul writes to his spiritual son Timothy, warning the church of Ephesus from false teachers who were stirring confusion and leading believers astray. Paul’s letter was a passionate call for Timothy to stay faithful and grounded in the truth of the Bible, which he had been taught from childhood.
Paul does not describe the Bible as a helpful suggestion or an inspirational collection of stories. He calls it God-breathed—divine truth, carefully communicated by God Himself. It is the living voice of God speaking to man in order to reveal Christ. The Bible isn’t just made up of ideas—it is the very tool God uses to shape us, challenge us, and form Christ within us.
In a world of endless opinions and information, how do we view the Bible? Is it simply a source of moral guidance, a devotional tool, or a book to read for inspirational quotes? Do we see it as God’s voice and long to know Him through it? Do we allow Scripture to shape our thinking, challenge our behaviours, and guide our decisions? Without God’s Word, we can be easily swayed by false teachings and worldly values. But with it, we can stand firm, discern truth, and walk in God’s ways.
God’s desire is not just for us to know Scripture, but to be completed by it—so that we become mature and ready for every good work. The Bible is the unerring Word of God, the firm foundation of our lives, and the blueprint for growing in His likeness. As such, we are to always look to the Bible as our blueprint for how we ought to conduct our lives as God’s people.
Pray and reflect:
- Reflect on your heart's attitude towards the Bible. Do you only read it out of obligation, in a piecemeal manner, without allowing it to have true authority in your life?
- Psalm 119:18, “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.” Pray and seek God to help you to discover the wondrous truth in His Word and to submit to it, even when it challenges or corrects you.

The world changes at a high speed. But in Hope Global, eight core values guide our church through the different seasons. In this devotion, we will highlight our core values each day through Scripture, reflection, and prayer. The devotionals invite our members to realign their lives with God’s purposes: to be motivated by the Gospel, shaped by His Word, empowered by the Spirit, committed to discipleship, passionate for people, rooted in the church family, engaged in church planting, and intentional in raising leaders. Together, they provide a biblical foundation for fulfilling God's vision for our church.
