Optimising your productivity
When and where are you most productive or creative?
It might not be as obvious as you first think. Let me explain!
My most creative location for many years has been on an airplane. Not short flights but the long-haul non-stop flights that last 12-18 hours. Crazy hey!
Another time and place for creativity for me is between 2 and 4 am. I prefer to sleep at this hour, but I've learned to respond to God’s wake-up call. So I accept His prompt to wake and record my new idea. He made me this way. I maximize being awake by keeping a pen and paper next to the bed. I’ve learned to write in the dark so as not to wake my spouse.
Also, I am more productive working alone than with others working nearby. The social interaction distracts me. I work better with smaller groups than larger groups.
How has God wired you? If the Lord has made us, we should observe and optimize how we are unique and work within that scope.
Be accountable to someone. If they are observant, they should have wisdom on where and when you are most creative and productive. Many excellent personality profile tests can help you know more about yourself. The important thing, though, is to begin by observing where you are most comfortable, most creative, and most effective, and then maximize these contexts.
Scripture to ponder – Proverbs 24:27 (NIV)
"Put your outdoor work in order and get your fields ready; after that, build your house."
Key Lesson: Keep learning about yourself and optimise those settings that best generate your creativity and productivity.
