The world is a dark place. You can stand in any church anywhere in the world and get the congregation to agree with the world being in a bad place. However, when you pose the idea of doing something about it, we become too busy for what God has called us to do. Jesus tells us to be a light and to let it shine. The things that take our attention and time directly affect our light.
