THE POWER OF ASKING ACCORDING TO HIS WILL (1)

The secret to effective prayer is not in the volume of words but in alignment with God’s will. Jesus declared, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you” (John 15:7). The condition is clear: abiding in Him and letting His Word abide in you. When His Word shapes your desires, your prayers automatically align with His will, and answers become inevitable. But when prayer springs only from human wants or fleshly ambition, it loses power before heaven.

James explains why many prayers go unanswered: “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts” (James 4:3). God does not finance lust. He will not endorse requests that contradict His purpose or corrupt your soul. For example, a man asking God to bless his dishonesty in business is praying against divine laws. No matter how long he prays, such prayers will never be answered. This is why you must let the Word of God filter your requests. Prayers born from Scripture are prayers God is already eager to answer. They rest not on emotion but on covenant truth.

Beloved, learn to check your motives before you pray. Ask yourself: Does this request glorify God or just satisfy me? Is it consistent with His promises, or is it driven by carnal desires? As you align with His Word, confidence rises and answers flow. Don’t waste energy praying amiss. Anchor your desires in the Word and present them boldly. When the Word rules your asking, you will not only pray effectively but also live in greater harmony with God’s will.

Are my prayers shaped by God’s Word or by my personal desires? Do I check my motives before I bring requests before God?

Lord, align my heart with Your Word. Deliver me from praying amiss, and teach me to ask only according to Your will. Amen.
