Refresh Yourself

How nice it is to drink a cool glass of cold water when we feel exhausted from the heat. We enjoy it so much because it's exactly what our sweaty bodies are asking for. We can also add the gentle shade of a nice tree or a pleasant, cool bath. Only when we are dry with thirst, exhausted, and tired, do we long for these things more than any other pleasure.

There are circumstances in which our soul also goes through those moments of thirst and fatigue. Some describe them as deserts, dry lands, or arid and dry ground. I think we have all traveled through these places at some point. Some verses from the song by Jesús Adrián Romero titled "Cansado del camino" (Tired of the road) come to mind:

"Tired of the road, thirsty for you, I have crossed a desert, I have run out of strength, I come to you."

The soul cries out for water that can refresh it. It's a desire so deep and at the same time so filled with weakness. Almost without strength, without spirit, feeling overwhelmed by thirst, seeing no water anywhere, the soul sends a groan to heaven, hoping to receive the longed-for refreshment. Let's take King David's prayer as an example in Psalm 42:1-2 (NIV): "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God."

If we continuously refresh ourselves with the Word of Life and God's promises, if we go to that spring given to us from heaven and drink from the water of life, our soul will be better able to face times of drought. In the same way that we take a nice bath every day, we should also consciously seek to refresh our soul.

It's a fact that the drier the ground is, the harder it is for water to soak into it. But a land that is continuously watered, even in times of drought, is more likely to become fertile again. Let's not wait to have a strong spiritual thirst to rush to satisfy our soul. Let's refresh ourselves now, every day. Let's drink from the spring of life that God has provided so that we can remain strong and productive, satisfied, and renewed.

And let's never lose sight of the fact that our God, as Psalm 107:35 (NIV) says, "turns the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into springs."

Water for Your Thirst

When the psalmist said, "My soul thirsts for God," he was expressing one of the deepest needs of the soul. In one way or another, every person experiences a thirst that can only be satisfied by the abundant delights of God. The purpose of this plan is to lead you to God's Word so it can show you the spring of water that wells up to eternal life.
