Words of Comfort, Hope and Joy

This Psalmist concentrates on three aspects of Christian life—gratitude, worship, and declaring God to those who do not know him.

Followers of Christ must always be grateful for what God has done in their lives, especially for the privilege of being His children. His saving grace gives us a reason to find purpose and meaning in our lives. John the apostle expressed this wonder as “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him" (1 John 3:1, ESV).

Not only for our salvation, we must thank the Lord for his daily provision and protection in our lives. A grateful heart should recognize the Lord in everyday events. Everything we have and everything we are is due to his gracious provision.

Worship is the second act of the Christian life. When we call upon the Lord, we recognize that our life depends on him and bow in humble adoration before his majesty. The Bible encourages us to acknowledge the Lord in all our ways (Proverbs 3:6).The humble acknowledgement of the Lord’s role in our lives is the foundation of worship.

Thirdly, grateful, worshipping Christians share their experience of the Lord with those who do not have it. Just as it is difficult to keep exciting news from others, the joy in the Lord is something that we cannot hide. Apostle Peter sums up the Christian experience: “Honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15, ESV).

We may sum up the Christian life as grateful, worshipful, and proclaiming.

Today, choose to cultivate a heart of gratitude by recognizing God’s provision and grace in every part of your life. Humbly worship him, acknowledging his majesty and sustaining power in all you do.
