CHOOSING FRIENDS WHO STRENGTHEN YOUR WALK

Do your closest friends stir up your love for God, or slowly pull you away from Him? God designed us for community. From the beginning, He said, "It is not good for man to be alone" (Genesis 2:18).

While that often applies to marriage, it also reveals a deeper truth: spiritual growth thrives in godly relationships. We all need friendships that fuel our faith. We cannot live without them.

The love and care of a friend who walks with Jesus strengthen us in our walk when storms come. Such friends steady us when trials hit. They lift us when we fall and remind us of the truth when our thinking is clouded by doubt. However, when our closest friends are walking in compromise, their conduct will impact and eventually reshape our personal convictions.

True spiritual friendship is built on more than simply having common interests. It is anchored in a shared zeal and passion to pursue Jesus. Hebrews 10:24-25 calls us to "consider one another in order to stir up love and good works… exhorting one another." Such precious friendships also do not shy away from hard conversations. They lovingly challenge us to keep our eyes on Jesus and to live set apart in a world that constantly calls us to blend in. Are the people closest to you helping you walk closer to Jesus, or subtly leading you away from Him?

PRAYER

Lord, lead me to friendships that sharpen my faith and draw me closer to You. Teach me to recognise godly companions and to be one myself, faithful, honest and full of grace. May every friendship I nurture reflect Your holiness and fuel a deeper love for You.
