Daniel: A Life Well-Lived

If you wonder if you can recover from life’s hard blows, ask Daniel how he survived being taken hostage from his homeland, never again to see his family and denied the hope of ever having a family. (Daniel 1)

If you wonder if you are too young to stand for God, watch Israel’s finest teenagers stand tall when everyone else bows to Babylon’s gods. And then walk with them directly into the hottest furnace. (Who’s that fourth man with them in the fire?) (Daniel 3)

If you wonder if you are too old play a part in God’s program, visit an 80-year-old Daniel alone with the lions in their den. (Daniel 6)

If you wonder if what we see and hear in this world is all that’s happening, engage your spiritually-informed imagination. Daniel’s story showcases how God controls history. (Daniel 5).

The first half of the book (chapters 1-6) tell the well-known and beautiful stories of courage, intrigue, surprise appearances by Jesus Himself—and all of them true.

The second half (chapters 7-12) shifts to visions of future kingdoms and God’s ultimate victory—which will all unfold in time. Daniel describes an invisible spiritual world, strategically in play and proves there’s way more going on in this world that meets the eye.

Daniel sees visions of the rise and fall of kings and kingdoms. He unveils a calendar of “70 weeks” that predict Jesus coming as the Messiah . . . and we’re right on time.

The really beautiful part of Daniel’s story is a life well lived, even on the constant edge of danger. He was scrutinized by workplace enemies, yet in the end, all they discovered was a man who loved God the same in private as in public. Daniel listened for God’s voice and did what pleased Him. In the end, he always came out on top.

Daniel and his friends might have been in a foreign land, but God was with them. In a lion’s den, a fiery furnace, and a hostile workplace. He never abandoned them.

Next: God knows how we feel.
