Day 14: God's Sovereignty Over Life's Storms
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 (NIV)
The storm arrived without warning. One moment, the disciples were peacefully crossing the lake; the next, they were fighting for their lives against the wind and waves. And where was Jesus? Asleep in the boat, seemingly oblivious to the chaos. Their panic made sense, but their faith was about to be transformed.
Life's storms also come this way: unexpected and devastating. A sudden diagnosis, the loss of a job, the end of a relationship, a global crisis—all of these can rob us of our sense of security in a matter of seconds. Like the disciples, we cry out, “Lord, don’t you care that we are perishing?”
But the truth remains: Jesus is never unconscious or indifferent. He rests because he knows what the disciples hadn’t yet understood: He has authority over all storms. With one word, “Be still, be still,” the winds ceased. The same voice that created the universe continues to have power over the circumstances that threaten to drown us.
God’s sovereignty doesn’t mean that He causes all storms, but that none of them are beyond His purposes. Today’s verse doesn’t promise that everything that happens is good, but that everything can work together for the good of those who love God. He can transform pain into maturity, ashes into beauty, weakness into strength. Nothing is wasted in His hands.
When the waves crash over us, we have a choice: to fix our eyes on the size of the storm or the size of our God.
Today, whatever storm threatens your peace, remember: the same Jesus who calmed the Sea of Galilee is in the boat with you.
My Prayer:
Father, the storms seem overwhelming, but I choose to look to You instead of the waves. You have authority over every circumstance, and I believe You can use even this pain for my good and Your glory. Give me peace amidst the chaos and confidence in Your sovereignty. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Questions to Reflect:
1. What storm in your life today seems out of control?
2. How can you practically surrender this situation to God's sovereign care?
