30 Day Devotional Journey - Anchored in Hope

God is in it all

Ezekiel was exiled in Babylon when he wrote this description of a vision that God gave him. God gave Ezekiel the task of sharing his visions and doing some pretty wacky things (Ezekiel 4–5) to prophesy Jerusalem’s defeat.

Israel had been so incredibly unfaithful that the glory of the Lord (i.e., God’s presence) had left the temple, and this is what Ezekiel saw by the Kebar River in Babylon. With Israel exiled, God had let Jerusalem fall into their enemy’s hands.

The Israelites were left to question their identity and no doubt were asking questions like, "If we have no temple and no king, who are we? How can we worship Yahweh? How can we be His people?" They had lost everything and were questioning God in the midst of their suffering.

Through all our suffering, we too can have this confident hope. That God is always working for our good and for His glory.

God is in and through all and sees and knows all. In fact, Romans 11:36 (NIV) tells us, "For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen."
