The Day of the Open Gate

Yom Kippur tradition suggests that, at dusk, the gates of heaven close, and the opportunity to have one's name inscribed in the Book of Life is ended. This creates a sense of urgency and a deep longing for mercy.

In contrast with this belief, the Messiah, Jesus, presents Himself as the Gate that is always open. He declares, "I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved." The sacrifice of Jesus does not close doors, but opens them for eternal reconciliation with God. He is the only way to the Father, not just on a special day, but at any time. Atonement in Jesus is for "everyone who believes in Him," and it is not restricted to a single nation or a single day of the year.

Personal Application: Do you feel anxious about your salvation? Are you afraid of eternal judgment? Jesus is the open gate to salvation. Enter through Him today. Our security is not in our works, but in the perfect work of Jesus on the cross.

Call to Intercession: Pray that the Jewish people, who seek peace with God through their own efforts, will find true peace and the way of life in Jesus, the Gate of salvation.
