The Mission of Work

Every Christian called to the marketplace is a corporate ambassador (2 Corinthians 5:20). It implies, among other things, that he has been intentionally sent to fulfill the following missions: express his faith (Matthew 28:19), be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16), work wholeheartedly (Colossians 3:23-24); and be generous (Hebrews 13:16). Among the four essential missions of every corporate ambassador, there is one we call the Mission OF Work. This mission is about the blessing, privilege, and opportunity of working wholeheartedly and with excellence.

Work is an excellent way to use our energies with significance, to put into practice the abilities and talents that God has given us, and to bless others with our unique contributions. If work gives God glory, then it is important to do it well, with effort, and ensure that the process is a blessing to those involved and that the resulting products and services improve the quality of life of people and the environment.

That is why being inspired, trained, and equipped to thrive at work is so important. A person who wants to work with excellence is always looking for ways to learn, to improve, and to increase their positive impact. Effective leaders are always being equipped (and at the same time equipping others) to ensure they work wholeheartedly and with excellence, acknowledging that they are doing it for their real master.

For reflection: Work becomes meaningful when it's done for Christ, with purpose, passion, and excellence. How would my attitude and impact shift if I truly saw my daily work as worship to Him?
