Day Four: Legacy

As Xennials, we’ve reached the stage of life where we think more often about what we are leaving behind. Many of us are raising kids, mentoring younger generations, or caring for aging parents. We grew up in a time when success was often measured by titles, possessions, or milestones. Now, we are realizing that legacy is not about what we accumulate, but about the faith, character, and love we pass on. We want to leave behind something that truly matters, something lasting.

The world has always measured legacy by achievement. In our younger years, legacy meant climbing the career ladder or building financial security. Today, it’s often framed as influence – making our mark, establishing our brand, being remembered. Biblical legacy, however, is not about impressing others; it is about faithfulness. God calls us to invest in the next generation – not by passing on perfection, but by passing on the story of His faithfulness. Legacy is less about building monuments to ourselves and more about planting seeds of faith that will grow long after we are gone.

Scripture makes this clear. The psalmist declared, “We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord” (Ps. 78:4). Moses commanded Israel to teach God’s Word diligently in their homes, weaving faith into the everyday rhythms of life (Deut. 6:6-9). Paul celebrated the generational faith passed from Timothy’s grandmother to his mother and then to him (2 Tim. 1:5). Jesus told His disciples that He had chosen them to bear fruit that would last (John 15:16).

Our true legacy is not what we accomplish for ourselves but what we entrust to others for the sake of Christ.

Reflection: What intentional steps can you take this week to invest in a legacy of faith that will continue to bear fruit beyond your lifetime?

A Generation Between: The Xennial Pursuit of Christ

Falling between Gen X and Millennials, the so-called “Xennial” generation carries the weight of both worlds. We grew up in an analog childhood and stepped into a digital adulthood, shaped by a blend of simplicity and complexity few others have known. Along the way, we learned to polish appearances – through church programs, cultural expectations, and curated social media feeds – until performing itself became exhausting. No wonder so many of us long for a faith that is genuine, rooted in Christ, and free of pretense. This five-day devotional speaks to that longing.
