Devotional:

“They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, some people standing there asked, ‘What are you doing, untying that colt?’ They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it.” – Mark 11:4–7 (NIV)

At first glance, this moment seems like a simple errand—fetching a colt. But in reality, it was a piece of divine orchestration. Jesus was preparing to enter Jerusalem in fulfillment of ancient prophecy (Zechariah 9:9), and two disciples were given the task of finding the donkey that would carry the King.

It’s easy to underestimate the significance of ordinary obedience. These disciples weren’t preaching sermons or performing miracles—they were simply untying a donkey and taking it to Jesus. Yet their willingness to obey this small, odd request played a part in ushering in one of the most profound moments in history: the Triumphal Entry. Often, we long to do “big things” for God, but He’s looking for hearts that will say yes to the little things. A phone call, a quiet act of service, a gentle word of encouragement—these may seem insignificant, but in God’s hands, they can prepare the way for something far greater than we imagine.

Like the disciples, our job isn’t to understand every detail—it’s to trust and obey. God takes care of the impact.

Prayer:

Lord, help me be faithful in the small things You ask of me today. Teach me to obey even when the task feels simple or strange. Use my everyday obedience to prepare the way for Your glory. Amen.
