THE POWER OF GRATITUDE

Key Verse:
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV).

Reflection:
Gratitude does not change the past, but it transforms the way we look at it. In In Search of Myself, we learn that giving thanks connects us to the present and distances us from negative rumination. In In the Mirror of Life, we discover that gratitude is a lens that reveals beauty even in the midst of pain.

In psychology, the practice of gratitude increases resilience, improves mood, and strengthens relationships. Psychoanalysis views gratitude as a movement of repair, capable of integrating both losses and achievements. From a systemic perspective, giving thanks for the life we have received — even with its imperfections — releases the flow of love that was interrupted. The Bible invites us to give thanks in all things, because gratitude opens our eyes to God’s faithfulness.

Additional Verses:

  • “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” – Psalm 103:2 (NIV).
  • “The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.” — Psalm 118:24 (NIV).

Systemic Reflection Phrase:
“When I give thanks, I make room for life to flow and allow God to give new meaning even to what once hurt.”

Practical Challenge:
Today, write down a list of ten things you are grateful for — from the simplest to the deepest. At the end, pray a prayer of gratitude, offering your list to the Lord.

Therapeutic Technique:
Practice a gratitude journal: before going to bed, write down three good things from your day. This trains your mind to see life through the lens of God’s goodness.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for every detail of my life. Teach me to give thanks not only in victories but also in difficulties, trusting that You are present in all things. May gratitude be the strength that sustains me and transforms my heart daily. Amen.
