40 Days to Awaken Your Sober Mindಮಾದರಿ

Sis, our alcohol-centric culture whispers lies. You need this to relax. You’re more fun with a drink. Everyone else is doing it. You’ll be boring without it.
But those are lies from a thief who wants to steal your peace and destroy your clarity. God wants to give you life. Not a dull, restricted life, but a vibrant, full one.
Taking thoughts captive isn’t about guilt; it’s about freedom. It’s about noticing what’s not true and choosing what is. This is how we reclaim our minds.
In 2nd Corinthians, we’re reminded that not every thought that passes through our minds is true or helpful. Many of the beliefs we carry about alcohol, like “I need this to cope” or “I deserve this”, are really rooted in fear, culture, or habit. God invites us to hold those thoughts up to His truth and release what no longer aligns with His best for us. A visual example of taking a thought “captive” is by observing it (not judging it) and deciding if it needs to take root or choosing to release it.
The ultimate filter for our thoughts is based on God’s Word and His unchanging character. Remember, when we’re obedient, it is in response to His great love for us! We can obey God from a heart of gratitude and trust when we know and believe His plans for us are good. It’s like submitting and surrendering what we think is true on a moment-by-moment basis. This truth-filled life is what leads us to freedom and abundance. We tend to settle for so much less.
We have thousands of thoughts every day, most are negative and even repetitive. The marketing and messaging around alcohol is selling us lies and false images of what the world believes. You don’t have to believe every thought. Just believe the ones that align with His Truth.
Prayer:
God, expose the lies I’ve believed. Help me speak Your Truth over my thoughts, and live from a renewed mind. Give me the strength to seek Your ways because they always put me on higher ground.
Journal Prompt:
What’s one lie you’ve believed about alcohol or yourself? What truth from God could replace it?
