Day 4: Your Worth

We are the doers who get things done — at least that’s what the Home Depot commercials tell us, right?

I wonder how different life would feel if we (and our preteens) viewed our worth less about getting things done and placing our worth in trivial, fleeting things, and more about knowing how our worth is already found in God’s eyes. Preteens are facing temptations daily, to find their worth in getting better grades, more likes on a social media post, on how their appearance is perceived, etc.

In order to see our worth as God sees it, there are a few things we (and our preteens) need to notice:

  1. When we follow God, we are new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17). We no longer need to impress God, go above and beyond our limits for Him, or prove ourselves to others. You and your preteen will never achieve perfection, but it’s beautiful that God reminds us in our weakness that we are still new each and every day.
  2. We remember who our Creator is (Psalm 139:13-15). When God created your preteen, He had a specific frame and plan in mind. This frame would allow your preteen to succeed in certain areas and learn their limits in others. God is personal yet purposeful in all He does in creating His children.
  3. You are the most valuable to God (Luke 12:6-7). Just as God cares for the sparrows, every blade of grass, every hair on your head, He cares for your preteen, dare I say, even more. He sees your preteen as worthy, special, and unique.
