Welcome to When God Shows Up: 30 Real Stories of Faith.

Over the next 30 days, you’ll read stories from people who have faced real heartbreak – grief, fear, rejection – and encountered God right in the middle of it.

At Stand in the Gap, we’ve seen how life can fall apart for widows, orphans, and prisoners. We’ve also seen how God meets people in those very moments, picks them up, and carries them through it.

There’s a powerful verse in Revelation 12:11, NLT. It says, “They have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.” That verse comes from a vision of heaven where God’s people are overcoming evil – both by Jesus’ sacrifice AND by courageously telling their stories. That is what this devotion is built on. Testimonies are not just stories. They are fierce weapons that God uses to overcome fear, doubt, and even the enemy himself.

In this first chapter, we will be diving into a story in Matthew 14, when the disciples are caught in a storm. The wind is howling and the waves are crashing. Then Jesus comes. Not just shouting from the shore, but walking on the very water that threatened to destroy the disciples. At first, they are terrified. But then He says, “Take courage. I am here!” (Matthew 14:27, NLT)

This week, you will read stories of people in the middle of their own storms who discovered that Jesus had not left them. In fact, He was coming toward them. And maybe, as you read, you will begin to see that He is walking toward you, too.
