Am I Enough? 3 Encouraging Reminders for Parents

God is Parenting You

Yesterday, we were reminded that “God Chose You.” When we’re feeling like we’re not enough, another important parenting reminder is that God is parenting you.

Hebrews 12:11 explains how God parents us: “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness.”

Paul David Tripp in his book Parenting said it this way, “In every moment as you are parenting your children, the Heavenly Father is parenting you.”

God, as our Heavenly Father, is the only perfect parent. He is our example, our motivation, and our greatest source of strength.

Be encouraged by this, as we are pointing our children to Christ, God is using our parenting as a tool to shape us into becoming more like Christ ourselves.

He corrects us, yet he’s patient and loving toward us as he works to produce righteousness in our hearts and lives.

God has given us children in our image who are mirrors of us, exposing our flaws and weaknesses.

But he has also given us the responsibility to partner with him to shape our children into his image, even more than ours.

As we become more like Christ, our children will naturally follow. Because faith is more often caught than it’s taught.

As we strive to become more like Jesus in our everyday parenting, our children are naturally drawn towards greater Christlikeness themselves.

Prayer

“Heavenly Father, thank you for patiently parenting me as I parent my children. Help me today to be a loving reflection of you to my kids.”

Tomorrow, we will see how God gets to love your children through you.
