Day 16 — Take Care of the Temple
If our desire is to fully live out the purpose God has marked for our lives, we cannot neglect the primary means He has given us to accomplish it: our body.
Oftentimes, when we think about our desire to serve God, we focus only on aspects related to our spiritual well-being, and forget about our physical well-being. However, God did not only create our spirit, He also gave us a body, which is an integral part of His plan for us. As such, it is our responsibility to care for it, just as we do for our spirit (see 1 Thessalonians 5:23).
If we want to live with energy, clarity, and consistency in the purpose God has entrusted to us, we must begin to view our physical well-being as an essential resource, not an optional one. Our body is an instrument through which we bear fruit, serve, and glorify the Lord every day.
The Word of God is clear: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20, NIV).
These words leave no room for doubt: our body is sacred, inhabited by the very presence of God, and entrusted to us as a vessel to be cared for, protected, and honored. Caring for it is not vanity; it is worship. It is a tangible way to say to God, “I want to serve You with all that I am—spirit, soul, and body.”
This is why taking care of ourselves is a responsibility, not a luxury to indulge in only when “we have time.” Nutrition, sleep, exercise, and hydration are fundamental practices that help us live our best life. We are able to give our best, when we are at our best - spiritually, mentally, and physically.
Take time to write a wellness routine that includes specific activities to care for your body. Dedicate time each day to follow this routine, and each evening reflect on how it has influenced your mood, your energy, and your overall sense of well-being. Remember, small steps are big steps!
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the body You have given me. Give me the motivation and discipline to be the best version of myself every day. Help me to live with energy, balance, and discipline, knowing that everything You have given me serves to fulfill Your purpose. Amen.
