Loving God First

To prioritize the Lord begins with love. Loving God first is not a partial devotion, it is a complete surrender of heart, mind, and soul. Yet so often, our affections drift toward lesser loves. The pull of money, comfort, and success can easily take center stage in our lives. These things are not evil in themselves, but when they become the focus of our thoughts and pursuits, they become idols.

I’ve seen this in my own life. There have been seasons where I loved increasing the balance in my bank account or accomplishing something so much that it consumed my thoughts. I measured success by what I could accumulate or achieve instead of by my devotion to God. But the truth is, none of those things satisfy for long. Achievements fade, bank accounts fluctuate, but the love of God never fails.

When we make Him our first love, everything else in life finds its right place. He deserves to be first not just because He commands it, but because He alone can fill the deepest longings of our soul.
