Created for More - Explore How the First Seven Days of Creation Still Shape Who You Are Todayಮಾದರಿ

Take a moment to watch the “Creation” music video — a creative retelling of Genesis 1 through a hip-hop lens. It sets the tone for everything that follows.
What does it mean to live in a world where God speaks, and light obeys?
Before the world had shape, before the first breath of humanity, there was only God. Eternal. Complete. Glorious. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1 ESV) No one else was there. He didn’t need anyone. But out of His own love, He chose to create.
The earth was “formless and void” (tohu vavohu in Hebrew) — chaotic, empty, dark. But the Spirit of God (Ruach Elohim) was already there, hovering over the waters like a mother eagle over her nest. (Deuteronomy 32:11 ESV) That’s who God is: present, attentive, ready to move.
And then, He speaks. The first words ever recorded in Scripture:
“Let there be light.” (Genesis 1:3 ESV)
Not sunlight. That wouldn’t come until Day Four. This light came from Him. Glory light. Revelation light. Like in Revelation 21:23 ESV, which says about the New Creation, “The glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.”
This is the pattern of creation, and of our lives:
- Chaos → God hovers
- Darkness → God speaks
- Light → God defines what is good
And here’s what’s wild: God didn’t call the darkness “bad.” He simply called the light “good” — because it came from Him. The first thing God ever declared “good” wasn’t us. It was light that reflected His nature.
One of God’s key characteristics is His goodness. Scripture says He is a righteous king, a watchful shepherd and a loving father. Everything that we know as “good” is a reflection of God.
“They shall pour forth the fame of Your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and His mercy is over all that He has made.” (Psalm 145:7-9 ESV)
Where do you need God to speak today?
If your life feels chaotic, dark, or void, remember Day One. The Spirit still hovers. God still speaks light where we expect confusion. And when He defines what is good, it’s not based on how we feel, it’s based on who He is.
REFLECT
- Is there a place in your life that feels formless or void?
- Are you waiting on the sun to rise, when God has already spoken light?
- How can you surrender to God’s definition of “good” today?
PRAYER
God, You are not a distant Creator. You are the voice that speaks into chaos. Hover over my life like You hovered over the deep. Speak light into my darkness. Shape what feels empty. And help me trust that what You call “good” is truly good. Amen.
