What Gen Z Really Wants to Know About Godಮಾದರಿ

What’s Going On with Gen Z and the Church?
Right now, the church is answering questions Gen Z is not asking while ignoring the questions they do ask. When we ignore the questions Gen Z is asking, Gen Z doesn’t have an opportunity to see how the Bible is relevant to the longings of their hearts and souls. This means the conversation around faith and the gospel does not intersect the worldview or experience of Gen Z in a meaningful way, even though it could! After all, the gospel is good news for everyone, everywhere, throughout time.
Though God exists outside of a specific cultural context, God interacts with us within our cultural context. This is seen throughout the Bible, as God interacts with people within their time, place, family, cultural belief system, and worldview. He acted and spoke in ways that were significant to the audience, using illustrations and metaphors that had specific meaning to those people at that time in that place. He went as far as to enter the world as a human child.
Gen Z has its own generational context and culture, which includes the questions this generation is asking based on its members’ worldview and values. If we understand these questions, the context around these questions, as well as how Christianity reflects the values and questions of Gen Z, a more relevant and applicable faith journey can be presented to Gen Z. They can then understand that Jesus cares about, understands, and engages with their hearts and their real lives in a meaningful and real way.
