The Supremacy of Christ as the Eternal Judge

Scriptures: Colossians 1:18; Revelation 1:17-18; John 5:22, 27; Acts 17:31; Revelation 19:11-15, 20:1-3, 7-10, 21:1-6, 22-27 (ESV/NIV/NLT)

Key Verse: (Acts 17:31, NLT)
“For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead”

Devotional Focus:
As we conclude our Easter series on the Supremacy of Jesus Christ, we reflect on His role as the Eternal Judge. Jesus, the Resurrected Saviour, holds ultimate authority to judge all creation, punish evil, reward the righteous, and make all things new. His judgments are just, true, and final, offering hope to those who trust in Him and a call to repentance for all. This devotion encourages you to live in light of Christ’s coming judgment, share the Gospel, and ensure your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Reflection:

Throughout history, human judges—from the time of Moses to modern courts—have been imperfect, often fallible in their judgments. In contrast, Jesus Christ, the Eternal Judge, is supreme because His resurrection proves His divine authority to judge the living and the dead (John 5:22, 27; Acts 17:31). As the Alpha and Omega, He holds the keys of death and Hades, ensuring His judgments are final and just (Revelation 1:17-18). As we reflect on His supremacy, we see three key aspects of His role as the Eternal Judge:

  1. Jesus Will Punish All Evil (Revelation 6:1-2; 19:11-15, 19-21; 20:1-3, 7-10):
When Jesus returns, He will execute God’s justice against all rebellion, wickedness, and evil. The seals, trumpets, and bowls in Revelation reveal His righteous judgment on a world corrupted by sin. He will defeat Satan, the beast, and the false prophet, casting them into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10). This assures us that no injustice—whether personal, societal, or cosmic—will go unaddressed. Jesus, the Faithful and True, will bring an end to all evil.
  2. Jesus Will Reward Everyone for Their Deeds (Matthew 25:31-36, 41-46; 1 Corinthians 3:10-15):
As the Eternal Judge, Jesus will separate the righteous (His sheep, who hear His voice and follow Him) from the rebellious (the goats, who reject Him). Those who trust in Christ and live for Him will inherit eternal life and dwell in God’s presence (Matthew 25:34). Those who reject Him face eternal separation (Matthew 25:46). Our actions matter, as they reflect our faith and will be tested by fire (1 Corinthians 3:10-15). Live to honour Christ, knowing your faithfulness will be rewarded.
  3. Jesus Will Make All Things New (Revelation 21:1-6, 22-27):
The ultimate reward for those who trust in Jesus is a new heaven and a new earth, where God dwells with His people, wiping away every tear and ending death, pain, and mourning. This perfect world, illuminated by God’s glory and the Lamb, will be free from sin and corruption. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will enter (Revelation 21:27). Jesus’ judgment paves the way for eternal restoration and fellowship with God.

This post-Easter reflection reminds us that Jesus’ role as the Eternal Judge calls us to live with urgency, sharing the Gospel and ensuring our faith is rooted in Him. His judgments are certain, but His grace is available now for all who turn to Him.

Application:

  1. Trust in Christ’s Salvation: If you haven’t placed your faith in Jesus, surrender to Him today to ensure your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Revelation 21:27). His grace is sufficient to save you from judgment.
  2. Live Righteously: Reflect on your daily choices. Are you living as one of Christ’s sheep, obeying His voice and serving others (Matthew 25:35-36)? Commit to honoring Him in your actions.
  3. Share the Gospel: Make it your mission to share the Good News of salvation through faith in Christ. Invite someone to an evangelistic event like Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames (HGHF) or share your testimony with a friend or neighbor.
  4. Hope in His Justice: If you’ve faced injustice or corruption, take heart that Jesus, the Eternal Judge, will right every wrong. Pray for strength to persevere in faith until His return.
  5. Prepare for Eternity: Live with the reality of Christ’s return in mind. Ask yourself, “Is my life aligned with His will, ready for His judgment?” Seek His guidance to walk in obedience.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, my Eternal Judge, thank You for Your supreme authority to judge justly and make all things new. I trust in Your grace to save me and write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Help me live righteously, reflecting Your love and obedience in all I do. Give me boldness to share Your Gospel, pointing others to Your salvation. Comfort me with the hope that You will end all evil and restore creation. Prepare my heart for Your return. In Your supreme name, Amen.

Action Step:

Spend 5-10 minutes reflecting on your readiness for Christ’s return. Write down one way you can align your life with His will (e.g., forgiving someone, serving others, or sharing the Gospel). This week, invite at least one person to learn about Jesus, perhaps through a conversation or an event like HGHF, and pray for their salvation.

Closing Thought:

Jesus, the Eternal Judge, holds ultimate authority to punish evil, reward the righteous, and make all things new. His resurrection proves His power, and His return is certain. Live boldly for Him, share His Gospel, and rest in the hope of His perfect justice and eternal restoration.

Next Steps: Continue to worship and serve the Eternal Judge, living with urgency to share His salvation and prepare for His glorious return.
