Heaven (Part 3)

God Is There

'God is in heaven, and you are on earth, so let your words be few' (Ecclesiastes 5:2 NIV).

Have you ever stopped to look at the vastness of the sky? It’s endless, isn’t it? That sense of wonder reminds us of something profound: God reigns over it all. That verse brings us back to this reality, reminding us that Heaven is His throne, a place of infinite wisdom and holiness.

When I read, 'Let your words be few,' it makes me think about how often we come before God with a flood of words, requests, worries, plans – the dreaded list that we meanderingly reel off. There’s nothing wrong with pouring out our hearts, but Solomon challenges us to stop and pause.

He asks us to remember who we’re speaking to. Heaven is where God’s perfect plans unfold, far beyond what we can see. It’s a humbling thought, isn’t it, as we try and comprehend what Heaven is and what it will mean for us.

Life can be noisy, full of decisions and distractions. We rush from one thing to the next, but Heaven operates on a different rhythm. It calls us to slow down, to listen, and to let the stillness remind us of God’s greatness.

When we truly grasp that He is in Heaven, ruling over all with power and purpose, it shifts how we approach Him. Our prayers become more thoughtful, our worship sincere, and our hearts more open to His will.

This verse isn’t about saying less, it’s about being intentional and holding back a little. It’s about recognising that our words carry weight when we speak to the One who created the heavens and the Earth.

In the quiet moments, when we stop to reflect, we find clarity and peace. Heaven’s perspective changes everything.

Reflect

  • Do you find it easy or difficult to pause and simply be still in God's presence?
  • What do you already do to help you slow down and enjoy God's presence?
  • What could make it easier? (For example, is there a peaceful space in your house that you could go to, or a worship song that helps you open up your heart and mind to God?)

Pray

Lord, You reign in Heaven, holy and eternal. Teach me to approach You with humility and awe. Help me to pause and listen, trusting in Your wisdom and Your plans. May Your heavenly perspective guide my heart today. Amen.

Challenge

Set aside five minutes to sit quietly before God today. No requests, no rushing, just stillness. Let the peace of His presence and the wonder of Heaven fill your heart and guide your thoughts.
