Introduction

Acts 21:17–26: Paul arrives in Jerusalem and meets with James, leader of the church in Jerusalem (see Acts 15:13), and the church elders. He gives a report about his work among the Gentiles and agrees to undergo a purification ritual to demonstrate that he lives according to the Law of Moses.

Paul greeted them and gave a complete report of everything that God had done among the Gentiles through his work.

Reflect

After Paul delivers his report, what do the church leaders say to him? What dilemma were they confronting (verses 21–22)? What do they instruct Paul to do (verses 23–24)? What message was sent to the Gentile believers (verse 25)? How are controversial matters resolved within your community of faith?

Lord God, you have called me to a life of discipleship. Keep me strong in faith as I seek to serve you and reflect your love and grace to everyone I meet today. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.
