Lighting Up Our City: Week 3-Connecting Through Your Story

DAY 1 OF 5

You have a story to share.

Stories are powerful. They calm and focus our mind, help us remember facts, learn important lessons, and understand our world.

The Bible is God’s Story – a personal account of who He is and how He loves and deals with mankind. When we read the narratives of people in the Bible, we can find connections to our own lives. Their joys, sorrows, failures, victories, and faith help us realize we’re not alone. They point us to God and show us how He patiently and lovingly interacts with all kinds of people.

When the apostle John, one of Jesus’ closest friends, described his knowledge and interactions with Jesus in the gospel of John, he did so with a very specific purpose: to help people gain everlasting, spiritual life by believing that “Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.” John shared his story to point people toward a belief and relationship with Christ.

Although our lives will never be recorded in Scripture, talking about our experiences, God’s presence, and the way He has worked in our lives can encourage people and point them toward Christ.

God can use our story, even those parts that bring pain or the times we’re not proud of, to help others gain a greater awareness and knowledge of who He is. What we’ve been through, how we responded, how God responded, and how we’re living now can provide an example of what it can look like to have a relationship with Him and walk in His ways.

What parts of your life’s story can be an encouragement to others and help point them to Christ?

About this Plan

Lighting Up Our City: Week 3-Connecting Through Your Story

Sharing where and when we need Jesus the most makes for a powerful faith story. This plan provides Biblical examples of Jesus sharing in someone’s story and encourages scripture verses. Through it, you will discover ways God calls us to share our stories of faith and get a picture of the power of God at work, which can lead to deeper conversations about Jesus.
