Journey Through Joshuaಮಾದರಿ

Central Campaign: Behind the Text
The conquest of Jericho was strategically significant from a military point of view. It is described just like an Egyptian conquest, but the conquering king couldn’t be any more different.
Jericho, the “City of Palms,” is a natural oasis on the west side of the Jordan River, approximately 825 feet below sea level. This 10,000-year-old city guards the natural routes into the hill country. Geography makes Jericho the natural intersection of north-south and east-west traffic for commerce and military action.
Jericho is an oasis city in the Jordan Valley.
The ancient site of Jericho is a large mound that has been excavated numerous times.
Jericho is considered the oldest city in the world because of this Neolithic tower which is dated to about 8,000 BC.
This excavated section has a burn layer that may reflect the destruction by Joshua.
Here is a close up of the burn layer.
The grain found in this pottery confirms that people were living in the city of Jericho during the time period of Joshua (Late Bronze Age).
The springs of Jericho are still active today.
