When Life Throws You a Curveball

DAY 1 OF 5

When You Need Healing

Are you or your loved ones in need of healing? In this side of heaven, bones are still broken, and pains are still felt in our flesh.

Indeed, the world we live in today is a fallen world.

Yet, we have one profound reason to celebrate. It is in knowing that Jesus has borne the punishment that was due us: forgiveness and healing go hand in hand.

Isaiah prophesied about Jesus:
“Surely, he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:4-5, NIV).

The verses above declare that He who was sinless was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities, and by His wounds we are healed. This illustrates how closely healing and the cost of our forgiveness are intertwined in that passage.

Do you know that the above prophesy from Isaiah, was then quoted by Matthew to describe the fulfilment of it by our Lord Jesus Christ?

“When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfil what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” (Matt 8:16-17).

Friends, Jesus hates sickness because He loves us. Jesus was moved with compassion when He saw a great multitude of people, and what is the result of that flow of compassion? He healed their sick (Matt 14:14).

If we remember the story of the man with leprosy, he came to Jesus with desperation and hope. He knelt, whispered: “Lord, if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.”

How did Jesus respond to him?

Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy (Matt 8:3).

Love is the reason for Jesus to endure all the inhumane whipping and scourging.
It is because Jesus loves us.
It is because of that love that He demonstrated on the cross, that we can receive our forgiveness and healing.

So, friends, look at Jesus.

On that rugged cross.

Where blood dripped for our forgiveness.

His scourging for our restoration and healing. His life for ours.

On that cross, He has borne our griefs and diseases. It is finished.

He is stretching His hands now reaching out to you.

Let us pray:

Our Father God, thank You that on the cross, Jesus paid the price for my sins so I can be forgiven and live abundantly in Your blessings.

Thank You for what Jesus has borne for me on that cross. He carried my griefs, pain, and diseases.

Thank You, Jesus, that You endured the whipping and scourging for me, and by Your stripes, I am healed. I receive Your healing.

I pray for shalom peace to flow over me, in my body and mind, to restore me fully.

Jesus, I rest in You and trust in You.

In Jesus' name, we pray.
