Devotional 2: Underlining the Gospel Underscores Our Priorities

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 NKJV

Though women today stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, we also have a lot to carry on our shoulders. We have to navigate the challenges of a wired generation as we try to find balance in an unbalanced world. We are being pulled in so many directions that sometimes we forget to look up. And sometimes we need to look down… at the Bible in our lap or on our kitchen table, as we often have little eyes looking up to us.

My mother was a great inspiration for the song, Praying Woman. She has followed in the footsteps of faithful warriors before her, and it has made all the difference! I think of godly women like Lois and Eunice, who imparted their faith to Timothy, Paul’s loyal missionary who also served as the first bishop of the church of Ephesus. This is the type of woman I am blessed to call my mother, and her faith lives on through my songs.

Like all ladies who love Jesus, my mom made her relationship with the Lord a top priority, inspiring others from the overflow of her time with Him. And because of her investment in knowing Him and His Word, my mother possesses wisdom that only God can grant, and she continues to build upon her relationship with Jesus to help build up the next generation. Thank God for praying mothers!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we have many choices to make each day, and each of those choices has the ability to lead us closer to your heart or further from it. We acknowledge that in order to meditate on Your Word, we must first know it. Please help us to desire time in the Word and a closer walk with You. Amen!
