Lessons From the Book of Ruthಮಾದರಿ

One of the things that strikes me most about Ruth’s story is that it’s so compellingly ordinary. It is about two hardworking, widowed women who battled through life’s hardships in the best way they knew how.

As you read through the book of Ruth, you won’t find God’s voice thundering down from heaven or earth-shattering miracles happening. Ruth doesn’t have great riches or an important position; she’s an ordinary girl who became a wife and a daughter-in-law, then a widow, then a wife again and finally a mother.

Ruth’s days were filled with picking grain (Ruth 2:2-23). It sounds borderline boring 🥱 but her life was shaped by faith and guided by God.

Sometimes, we get frustrated when our lives feel ordinary, mundane or even boring.

My wife, Jenny, struggled with it when she became a mom. She couldn’t join me on tour with Yeshua Ministries anymore, and especially after our son fell sick, her days were, and mostly still are, filled with mundane tasks like changing diapers and cleaning dishes.

We all desire greatness, adventure or thrill, yet there is power in the ordinary. God rewards us when we are diligent in the ordinary parts of our lives, and He takes delight in hard work. In Proverbs, we can read that “all hard work brings a profit” and “the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied” (Proverbs 14:23 and Proverbs 13:4).

In Ruth’s case, her diligence and hard work contributed to a life so important that it’s included in the Bible, and her name is recognised in the lineage of Jesus.

Try to remind yourself today that God is with you as you go through the mundane activities of your day and thank Him that He uses all you do for His glory, even the seemingly boring tasks.
