Revive Us, Lord: A 40-Day Journey Through the Gospel of Johnಮಾದರಿ

The Empty Tomb
Summary
- Early on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene found the tomb empty and alerted Peter and John about Jesus’ missing body.
- Peter and John inspected the tomb; the grave clothes were neatly folded but there was no sign of the body.
- Mary did not go home but stood outside the tomb, weeping. Then she saw two angels sitting where Jesus’ body had lain.
- As she was conversing with them, Jesus stood by her. As she was not expecting a risen Jesus, she initially mistook Him for the gardener.
- It was only when Jesus called her by name that she recognised Jesus.
- Jesus instructed her to share the amazing news of His resurrection with His disciples, referring to them as His "brothers."
Reflect
1. Why do you think Mary Magdalene was personally chosen by the Lord to be the first person to witness His resurrection. What were some of her spiritual virtues that “drew” Jesus to her (James 4:8)?
2. How can you emulate her faithfulness, passion and commitment for Jesus? How can you start living a life that welcomes the manifest presence of God? (John 14:23)

Michael Hoff sets up the historical grounding of the resurrection. Mary Magdalene, a woman with a complicated past, was surprisingly chosen to be the first witness of Jesus' resurrection. Mary’s encounter with the risen Christ showed God’s grace and wisdom in using imperfect people to do His mission.
The resurrection is central to our Christian hope, affirming Jesus' victory over death and inviting all believers into God's family.
Reflect
3. Why do you think Jesus’ resurrection is so important to your personal walk with God? (1 Corinthians 15:14-19) How can you display Jesus’ power and victory in your life and ministry?
Closing Prayer
Pray for God to give you a deeper understanding of the resurrection’s significance so that you have the courage to share the Gospel with others. Pray for a heart that pleases Him.

For the next 40 days, we’ll journey through the Gospel of John, exploring his first-hand account of Jesus’ life. John gives us a glimpse of what it was like to be with Jesus, revealing who He is and how He reflects the very nature of God. Throughout the Gospel, Jesus makes bold claims about Himself, not just for people then but for us today. He calls for a response—one that will shape our lives, destiny, and eternal reward. Will we truly believe in Him? Will we follow Him as our Master and Lord to the very end?
