When we trust in the present instead of having the unique kind of understanding that is the result of faith--that the Lord is in control--we become like beasts, less than human. Those who are willing to stay at their watchpost even when it doesn’t make sense are resolved to live as true humans. These are the people God uses in history. Think of Moses going before Pharaoh with a request that would have not only seemed preposterous, but laughable. Or, more recently, Martin Luther King Jr. standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial telling the world his dream despite the struggle of his people.
