Jesus was confronted many years after Deuteronomy was written with a challenge about God's law: the people asked Him what the most important commandment in all of the law was. Despite being pushed into a corner, Jesus gave an answer that shocked them: the greatest command was to love God. The second greatest command is to love others. Then, in an incredibly bold statement, while being spoken to by experts of the Law, Jesus stated that the entirety of the law depended on these two simple commands.

Jesus is the completion of the law, and He perfected it in His life and death. By following Jesus and the Spirit of God that lives within us, we can follow the heart of God's law written in the Old Testament: to love Him first and to love the people around us second.
