Going Places

DAY 8 OF 28

[IMAGE CONTENT] Few things can help us pass the time like a good game. And when we're traveling for a long time, a good, challenging game can make the trip feel a lot shorter. Road trip games aren't the only things that improve with a little bit of a challenge, our friendship can, too. In today's reading, you'll explore a time when Jesus' disciples were out on a boat. When Jesus wanted to catch up to the disciples, he decided to just walk out to them . . . on the water. It was totally unexpected, and they thought Jesus was a ghost. But Peter wanted to prove it was really Jesus, so Jesus invited him to join him out on top of the water. So, Peter, full of faith, stepped out and joined Jesus on top of the water. When we think about challenges, we might view them as hostile or aggressive, but they can be so much more than that. In this story, Peter challenged Jesus to prove himself. But then, Jesus flipped everything when he challenged Peter to join him. Both of these challenges were built on a foundation of love, trust, and complete honesty. With this story, we discover how a simple challenge can be a form of encouragement. When we speak from a place of love and trust, we can help our friends grow closer to Jesus and they can return the favor. Together, we can explore what it means to know friends aren't afraid to challenge each other .
