Good Questions: What Do I Need to Do to Be Saved?

DAY 4 OF 5

### Press the Red Button Have you ever thought that following Jesus can sound too good to be true? It’s because Christ took care of the most difficult part of our salvation, and He did it before we even walked this earth. According to Tom Constable, the Bible commentator, how we are saved is by faith alone in Jesus Christ. We must personally trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior and confess Him as Lord. In Romans 10:9–10, Paul is saying that we need to bring our confession and our life into agreement. Our mouths and our hearts should be in harmony, saying the same thing. Confessing Jesus as Lord may seem simple, but it has a deep meaning. In ancient Rome, people had to confess that Caesar was Lord. Early Christians confessing that Jesus was Lord was a radical statement. It meant that they were not willing to honor Caesar as a god and that they were willing to face persecution for their faith. By not professing that Caesar was lord, they risked being killed. I bought my grandmother a new TV. To make using it easy for her, I told her the most important thing was that if she wanted to turn it “On” or “Off”, she had to press the red button. In the same way, we may need guidance to understand what it means to trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior. Jesus has made it easy for us to be saved. All we have to do is trust in His sacrifice on the cross. This means believing that Jesus paid the price for our sins so that we can be forgiven and that he rose again so we could have new life. We also have to confess Him as Lord. This means we act on our belief by telling others about it. Let us not allow our struggles or doubts to hold us back from experiencing the life-changing power of the gospel. Ultimately, the decision to trust in Jesus Christ and confess him as Lord is personal. The good news is that the way to salvation is not complicated. We don’t have to perform difficult works to be saved. We just have to trust in Jesus Christ. The message is near us, in our mouths, and in our hearts. If we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved. Have you personally trusted in Jesus Christ as your Savior and confessed him as Lord? Don't let fear or doubt hold you back. The decision to follow Jesus is personal, but it is also the most important decision you will ever make. Jesus shed His blood for your sake. Start your journey of faith with Him today.
