Become Rich in Community
Apparently, we are better together. We need each other. It’s a good idea, but it’s also God’s best plan for our life.
Do you know there are fifty-four “one anothers” in the New Testament? I won’t list them all, but here are a few: "Love one another" (John 13:34). "Be devoted to one another" (Romans 12:10). "Live in harmony with one another" (Romans 12:16). "Bear with one another" (Colossians 3:13). "Show kindness to one another "(Ephesians 4:32). And, I love this one… “Outdo one another in showing honor” (Romans 12:10 ESV).
It’s like a competition.
Outdo one another in showing honor.
I often wonder what would happen if one another was a greater priority for more of us. I wonder what would happen if we were actually for one another—if that were our goal. I wonder, how important one another is to you.
We are wired to love, to be loved, and to belong.
It’s why I’m here.
It’s why you’re here.
It’s the secret to significance.
If you want life to the full, you must become rich in community.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me…Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly” (Matthew 11:28–30 MSG).
Come to me.
Keep company with me.
It’s Jesus’ invitation—he wants a relationship with us. He also wants relationships for us. It’s how we’re designed. It’s part of our purpose. It’s how we experience life to the full—pursue a relationship with God and others. The Christian faith requires community.
It’s people, not the perfect job, that lead to fulfillment. People, not possessions. People, not prosperity or property or pastimes. We are designed for relationships. So, no matter what you have or what you get or what you want or what you pursue…if you don’t become rich in community, you might be successful, but you won’t be fulfilled.
