What does it mean to make a promise? For kids, this usually involves some sort of pinky swears to cover some agreement or alliance. For adults, our promise is usually meant to guarantee that we will provide or do something based solely on giving our word. A promise is something that we should be able to put our trust in. A heavenly promise made by God is something that we can put our trust in. Time and time again, God kept His promises to His people, even when they did not always keep their promises. God has proven time and time again that we can trust in the promises He makes to us. When He promises us eternal life, He does more than back it up with words. God sent His son to die on the cross for our sins. He sacrificed His only son to keep His promise to all humanity. Knowing this, how can we not trust in Him? Spend time in prayer today, thanking God for the promise of eternal life. Thank Him for the sacrifice He made to keep that promise—a promise that ends with a life spent with our Creator.
