Jesus healed the sick

“Jesus said to him, ‘Get up, take up your bed, and walk.’ And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.” (John 5:8-9)

Many of Jesus’ miracles recorded in the Bible are about sick people getting healed. Today’s story is about a man who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years and had lost all hope to be healed. His disability was incurable and he was just lying day after day in a kind of hospital. His situation seemed quite desperate. But then Jesus walked by and saw him lying there. He asked the man whether he wanted to be healed and then told him to get up and walk. The actual miracle is described in just a few words: “At once the man was healed”. After all those years of hopelessness, it took just a word from Jesus to heal the invalid man!

The Bible describes many more examples of people who were blind, deaf, paralyzed or had other incurable illnesses, and were healed by Jesus.

When Jesus was asked Who He actually was, He pointed to these miracles that fulfilled a 700-year-old prophecy by the prophet Isaiah: “Behold, your God… He will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then shall the lame man leap like a deer” (Isaiah 35:5-6).
