The Impact of Arrogance - Proverbs 26
Another character commonly referenced in the book of Proverbs is the Fool. He’s constantly stumbling over himself, heading in the wrong direction, or making a dumb decision. The definition of folly is the state or quality of being foolish; lack of understanding or sense. In Proverbs 26:1-11, the case is made against the Fool – there can’t be anything worse than being a fool, but verse 12 states there is something worse – being wise in your own eyes. Arrogance is worse than foolishness. This passage emphasizes that there’s nothing worse than someone who is arrogant and boastful.
One of the antidotes to arrogance is humility, and the Bible clearly says we are called to humble ourselves (1 Peter 5:5-6). It is our job to keep a healthy estimation of ourselves, stay teachable and always walk in an attitude of humility.
“Father, thank you for the grace you give when I humble myself. I humble myself today and ask for your favor. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
