Jesus was talking to His Father one day, and He let us eavesdrop on the conversation. He said He had brought glory and honor to His Father by finishing the work He had been given to do. I can understand that kind of theology. If you want to honor God like Jesus did, finish what He gave you to do. Do you have a song yet to be written? Finish your work. Do you have a book inside of you, but you’ve been deferring the process of writing? Pick up your pen. Do you have a strained relationship that demands a difficult conversation? Make the call. Are you stuck in a job that isn’t you anymore? Quit. Literally, finish your work. Or is there someone you have wanted to connect with but have felt like it would be too big of a risk to ask? . . .
You might need to find someone to help you take the last courageous step. Find a safe friend, a wise counselor, a family member, a trustworthy pastor, or the guy at the tire store. Seek out people who have the patience and experience or the deep love for creating that you may lack. Identify people who get things done and draw close to them. Figure out what has been getting in the way, those things that have been distracting you, and eliminate them. If you want to honor and dazzle God, find the work He has given you, and do it until the job is done.
Prayer
Father, please help me to complete the work You have set before me. Amen.
