David’s military successes are summarized here. He is able to increase Israel’s territory and secure its borders. Verse 6 tells us the Lord helped David, so his successes were a combination of his own efforts and God’s work.
It’s easy to forget the role God plays in our lives. We wisely make decisions to be successful; things like getting an education, saving money, pursuing strong relationships, etc. However, those things don’t guarantee success, only God can. Proverbs 19:21 says, “You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.”
