Keep Digging

DAY 1 OF 3

Do Not Stop at the Rock

Let me ask you an honest question. Have you ever started something with great expectation, only to hit a wall that stopped you completely? Maybe it was a business that had momentum and then stalled. Maybe it was a prayer you have been praying for years with no visible answer. Maybe it was a relationship that had every sign of flourishing, and then suddenly it got hard.

When we hit the rock, our natural response is to pack up our tools and walk away. We tell ourselves that perhaps it was not meant to be. We convince ourselves that God must be redirecting us somewhere else.

But look at what Jesus said to a fisherman who had failed all night in Luke 5. He did not say, try a different lake. He said, launch out into the deep. In the same water. In the same boat. After the same failure.

The breakthrough was not waiting somewhere else. It was waiting deeper in the same place.

Yet, Peter’s initial response is typical of the tension many of us feel: “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing.” In other words, “I have tried. I am tired. I am experienced. And this has not worked before.” Still, Peter chose obedience over emotion.

“Nevertheless, at Your word, I will let down the net.”

That moment changed everything.

Breakthrough does not always come because we worked harder. Sometimes it comes because we obeyed more deeply. Resistance does not mean absence of God. In fact, resistance is often proof that something valuable lies beneath the surface. Just like digging through hard rock before reaching water, many breakthroughs require patience, faith, and persistence.

It is essential to understand that changing locations does not eliminate resistance. You may change jobs, cities, or countries and still face opposition. Breakthrough is not about geography, but obedience.

When God is on your side, the ground you stand on becomes fertile, even if it once looked dry.

Water is often the first sign of breakthrough. It brings life, cleansing, and sustainability. But it is not the end. God’s blessings are layered. If you stop too early, you may miss what comes next.

Today, God is inviting you not to quit, not to complain. He calls you to dig again, and this time, with Him.

Reflection Questions

  • What kind of breakthrough are you trusting God for that goes beyond yourself?
  • How can your progress become a blessing to others?

TODAY'S EXERCISE

Identify the rock in your life today. The one area where you are most tempted to give up. Write it down honestly. Then write Luke 5:5 next to it: "Nevertheless, at Thy word, I will let down the net." That word, nevertheless, is your assignment today. Say it to God, and mean it.

About this Plan

Keep Digging

Everyone reaches a point where the ground gets hard. The shovel slows down. The results stop coming. And the temptation to walk away feels completely reasonable. But God has never called you to reasonable. He has called you to deep. Join me for three days as we discover what waits for those who refuse to quit.
