Who Is He? Who Are We?ნიმუში

John 10, Psalm 23- Read both passages and then come back :)
Jumping right in, we just read how Jesus calls Himself the Good Shepherd. He says, “I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father” (John 10:14-15). This is identity language. Jesus is showing us who He is, and in doing so, He reveals who we are. He is the Good Shepherd, which means He protects, provides for, and sacrifices Himself for His sheep, not because He has to, but because He cares deeply for them. He stays close, guiding His sheep with His voice and laying down His life so we can live in safety and freedom. His identity as Shepherd shapes our identity as His sheep: known, chosen, and cared for. In verses 12–13, Jesus contrasts Himself with the hired hand who runs away when danger comes. The hired hand doesn’t care about the sheep, but Jesus does. He stays. He fights for us. He gave His life for us. That’s how we know we can trust His voice! In a world full of noise, opinions, and distractions, recognizing His voice becomes the key to walking confidently in who we are. Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (v. 27). To know Him is to listen for Him. And the more we learn His tone, His truth, His heart, the less likely we are to follow a voice that leads us away. Later, verses 36–39, Jesus says, “Believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” Jesus’ works all through His life, His miracles, compassion, and sacrifice all reveal His identity. When we believe the works, we begin to see the Father through the Son. Because once we know who He is, we start to see who we are in light of Him! So again I remind you, our identity isn’t defined by the voices and pressures around us, but by the steady truth that we belong to the Shepherd who calls us His own. When your confidence starts to waver, remember the words of Psalm 23. Even when life feels uncertain or noisy, you can rest in knowing He’s guiding you beside still waters and restoring your soul. So lean into His Word, listen for His voice, and keep walking with the Shepherd who knows your name
Reflection Questions: Grab a journal or open a notes app
1. What voices have been the loudest in your life lately? How can you make space to hear Jesus’ voice more clearly?
2. When you think about Jesus as the Good Shepherd, what does that reveal about how He sees you?
3. In what ways can you “believe the works” of Jesus, trusting His character and presence even when you don’t understand everything?
Action Steps:
● Listen: Set aside 30-45 minutes today to be still. Ask Jesus to speak to you through Scripture, worship, or silence.
● Remember: Each time you feel uncertain about who you are, remind yourself of this truth: I am known by the Good Shepherd, and His voice leads me to life.
