Main Idea: God’s Glory, Our Good
God designed His creation in such a way that it would both glorify Him and be good for us. Let’s say that at creation, God was the inventor of an incredible new piece of technology, the iPhone 40,000 or something like that, and He wrote an instruction manual for how it is supposed to be used. If those instructions are followed, two things happen. First, it means that the ones for whom it is made get the best use out of it, and second, that the excellence of His work can be fully appreciated.
That’s how God set up the world. God is not needy. He is, however, God, and rightly wants to be recognised as such. But His desire that we should glorify Him is not something that conflicts with our best interests. On the contrary, we can only live the best life that God has for us when we seek to obey and honour Him fully. When we live in such a way as to do this, obeying His word, we live in a way that is objectively good for both ourselves and other people.
Reflection Questions:
- What does it mean to “glorify God” in your daily life, at school, at home, or with friends?
- How can you show through your words, choices, and attitude that you trust God’s design?
- What might change in your life if you truly believed that obeying God always leads to your ultimate good?
