Eternal Promises of Heaven

DAY 5 OF 5

Worship in Heaven
What will worship look like in heaven?

Worship on earth involves praising God through singing, praying, and listening to preaching. But in heaven we won’t need to pray anymore—our needs will be met. There won’t be sermons because we’ll know the truth about God. Only praise will remain.

Praise is what we’ll be doing forever. And our worship here is a kind of rehearsal for what’s ahead. The more we learn to worship now, the more natural it will feel when we go to heaven.

God is glorified, and we are renewed and blessed when we engage in worship.

Worship lifts our eyes off the struggle and places them on the Sovereign, giving us perspective. Worship helps us take our eyes off troublesome things, reminding us it’s not always going to be this way.

If choirs and orchestras can elevate us to such heights of enjoyment on earth, what will it be like when we hear the celestial choirs and heaven-trained orchestra?

In Revelation, John gives us a glimpse of the majesty and awe of what it will be like when we’re part of that great assembly, worshiping God in heaven. It’s a spectacular celebration that includes angels, living creatures, elders, harps, bowls of incense, and songs. As you move through the book of Revelation the worship grows—a crescendo of worship to the Lord. The crescendo of worship to God escalates in accordance with the timeline of God’s purposes in the world. The further along in Revelation we go and the closer we move toward the Second Coming, the more wonderful and prominent worship becomes.

God wants to be blessed by our worship, but He also wants to bless us when we worship.

·Worship Is Not About Us—It’s About Him. Look through the worship songs of Revelation, and you’ll be struck by the centrality of Christ in each of them.

·Worship Is Not About Here—It’s About There. Worship should get our minds off the things of this earth and on to the things of heaven.

·Worship Is Not About Now—It’s About Then. Worship is the avenue that leads us from the emptiness of this world to the fullness of the next.

·Worship Is Not About One—It’s About Many. In Revelation, for every one time you see an individual worshiping, there are five examples of corporate worship, of crowds gathering around the throne praising God.

When we worship here on earth, our hearts are filled with joy giving us a glimpse of how it will be in heaven.
